Magazine Concept
Genetics Journal is a concept for a magazine which brings together design and science. This issue of the magazine focuses on CRISPR-Cas 9, which is a protein that recognizes mutations in DNA and recodes the individual stand. It is generally the gene that is associated with ‘designer babies’. Genetics and biology are a former passion of mine, I wanted to showcase how science is accessible to the average person. Having a background in both science and design this gave me the unique qualifications to successfully design an approachable and educational piece of media. Styrene is the san serif headline type which is complimented by Lora as the body type. Styrene is striking, a high class approachable-synthetic typeface with striking curvature that is both whimsical and sterile; welcoming to the curious reader. Lora plays off of Styrene’s striking nature, highlighting the magazine’s storytelling in a digestible manner. The limited-muted color palette is meant to reflect the public perception that scientific articles are bland, but used in an elevated manner that is attractive. 23 pages 8.5 x 10 inches 2022
